KAI’s name comes from the Hawaiian word for “Blue Ocean”, and she is truly a one of a kind offshore vessel completely in her element on Bluewater. KAI was a custom build coordinated by Wellington Yachts in Florida back in the early ‘80s. Wellington is an industry leader in both yacht sales and in bringing together highly skilled designers, architects, and craftsmen to produce world class custom Yachts.

KAI was built tough. Her hull was heavily hand laid with many layers of fiberglass over AIRX foam for strength and insulation. She is strong, smooth, and quiet. 72 feet in length and with a beam of 18 feet, she is a big open ocean sailor, but her sleek design allows her to slip into shallow waters of just six feet. On anchor, this allows access to remote areas that deeper draft vessels can’t match. KAI will put you up close and personal for photo ops, snorkeling, beach excursions, swimming, or whatever strikes you fancy.

While she has the soul of a Bluewater sailor, she has a debutante heart. The term luxurious doesn’t do her justice, dignified elegance is more to the point. Below deck she exemplifies the collision of fine hardwoods and master craftsmen. Her timelessly classic yet modern looks provide the perfect backdrop to her capabilities.

Her salon is eighteen feet wide with beautiful woodwork, made of rich mahogany and solid white oak. When sitting in the salon there are 4 ports at eye level allowing you a constant view outside. 8 more side ports and two open hatches in the cabin top provide an awesome 360-degree view with lots of natural light and plenty of air flow perfect in any conditions. There are two comfortable seating areas, custom dining table, and a 28" flat screen TV in the salon. The space is bigger than most in her class, even by today’s standards.

She features four cabins and three heads, all with showers. Three of the cabins are forward of the salon, and there is a private captain’s quarters in the stern.

The Boca Grande Cabin has a queen-sized bed, small closet, 6 drawers and a small couch. There is a TV /DVD player with input ports for a computer and a radio with two speakers for a little downtime on your own. This cabin features a private bath and head as well as central HVAC controls for personalized comfort, or you can always pop open the hatch to get fresh air.

The bunk room is named after Cutty-Hunk, a cozy and snug harbor in the Elizabeth islands on the edge of Vineyard sound. This cabin has two single bunks that are six foot six inches long. There is a sink and lighted mirror with loads of storage. This cabin also has AC and heat. There is small window hatch in the hull next to the top bunk and a large opening hatch in the cabin top providing plenty of air and light with plenty of room for two.

The Green Turtle Cay Cabin has centralized AC and heat, a private vanity and sink, loads of storage and a hatch above the bed. This is the most forward cabin on the boat. With a full-sized queen bed, a couch and plenty of room for two to move about, this cabin is exceptionally comfortable.
