Life Aboard Libra
Welcome to Life at Sea
Life aboard Libra isn’t luxury, and it isn’t a cruise. It’s something better. It’s honest, immersive, and full of unexpected magic. It’s a rhythm of early morning coffee, wind in the rigging, shared meals, deep sleep, and the quiet power of moving a boat across the ocean with your own hands.
From sunrise watches to moonlit helming, every day on Libra is shaped by the sea, the weather, and the crew aboard. You won’t just observe the passage — you’ll become part of it.
Meals at Sea
The mate prepares every meal onboard (most trips), with comfort food that hits the spot after a long watch or a rough patch of weather. There’s always coffee ready, a snack station available, and sandwich fixings for mid-day hunger. Our freshwater comes from a 40-gallon-per-hour watermaker — made from the sea and better-tasting than bottled.
Typical meals feature protein, veggies, and starch — like grilled chicken with rice and salad, or spaghetti with garlic bread. Breakfasts rotate between eggs and bacon, pancakes, bagels (especially good on rough days), and Libra’s famous French toast.
While guest crew don’t typically prep meals, help with dishes or an extra set of hands in the galley is always welcome. Boat chili night is a fan favorite.
Sleeping Quarters
Everyone is assigned a dedicated bunk space at the start of each passage. There’s a V-berth up forward that sleeps two, four bunks in the saloon, and a navigator's berth tucked near the nav station. The aft cabin is reserved for full-time crew — it’s our private sleeping quarters (ask for a tour!).
If conditions warrant, bunk assignments may shift slightly to ensure the crew is well rested and safe. We provide everything you need for sleeping onboard — clean bedding, pillows, and even the small comforts. Just bring your clothes.
Systems and Connectivity
Libra is equipped for offshore with full nav and safety systems. You'll be trained on using radar, AIS, GPS, and paper charts. Watching AIS traffic approach in open water is always a moment. For those who want to check in back home, we power up Starlink once a day for about 15 minutes. The rest of the time? You're beautifully offline.
Saftey & Gear
We supply self-inflating life jackets and tethers for every crewmember. In most conditions, you won’t need foul weather gear leave your Helly Hansen at home, but a lightweight rain jacket is good to have. If a specific passage might require extras, you’ll be informed in advance.
We take offshore safety seriously — drills, routines, and redundant systems are part of the flow.
Unforgettable Moments
If the weather allows, we swim offshore — mid-ocean, hundreds of miles from land. You might spot dolphins surfing the bow, whales off the horizon, or catch a mahi on the troll.
We do celestial navigation with anyone interested, we trade stories during Captain’s Hour (pre-dinner snacks & laughs), and we end each trip with a signed sailing certificate and, of course, a Libra shirt.
