About Brooke Carleton
First Mate. Seafarer. Problem solver. Deck ops leader
Brooke Carleton’s connection to sailing began early. As a child, she spent time sailing on Long Island Sound with her father aboard an Allied Seabreeze 35, building comfort on the water long before sailing became a profession. That foundation stayed with her, eventually leading her back to the sea in a more serious way.
Brooke joined Sail Libra in 2022 as a client, initially seeking training and offshore experience. What stood out immediately was the program’s welcoming, hands-on atmosphere and its focus on real seamanship rather than shortcuts. That environment helped Brooke recognize that sailing was more than an interest. It was a career path worth pursuing. She has remained aboard Libra ever since.

Brooke on Libra's main boom, one of her many favorite places to be
When not on Libra, Brooke works in New York City at the South Street Seaport Museum, she works within the museum’s machine and maintenance department, where she thrives on hands-on projects, mechanical systems, and the practical realities of keeping working vessels operational.
A mother of two teenage sons, Brooke balances professional seamanship with family life, bringing a grounded, focused perspective aboard Libra. Offshore, she is known for her reliability, steady demeanor, and willingness to take on whatever needs doing, whether that means deck work, maintenance, watchkeeping, or supporting clients as they find their footing at sea.
Brooke’s path from sailor to professional crew reflects the heart of Sail Libra’s mission. She understands what it feels like to step aboard for the first time, to learn through experience, and to grow confidence one watch at a time. Her presence aboard helps create an environment where learning feels supported, practical, and real.
